Foods to Avoid

Hard, sticky foods and foods high in sugar should try to be avoided. Hard, sticky foods can break or damage wires and brackets, as well as get caught in between them. Minimizing sugary foods can decrease the risks of tooth decay and other related problems. Nail biting, pencil/pen chewing and chewing on foreign objects should be avoided.

Toffee
Tootsie Rolls
Caramels
Starburst
Laffy Taffy
Fruit Roll Up
Sour Straws
Jolly Ranchers

Examples of Hard Foods to Eat with Caution:

Ice
Nuts
Hard taco shells
French bread crust/rolls
Corn on the cob
Apples and carrots (unless cut into small pieces or cooked)
Bagels
Chips
Pizza crust
Uncooked carrots (unless cut)

Minimize Sugary Foods like:

Cake
Ice Cream
Cookies
Pie
Candy
